The Last Lecture

Tonight on ABC, there was a story by Diane Sawyer about Randy Pausch and his book, The Last Lecture. I had heard about it here and there ... have you?

I am sitting here with tears streaming down my face, what an extraordinary story! You can watch his "Last Lecture" on YouTube, and he wrote a book about it as well. I don't know which came first ... the book or the lecture, but it is quite phenomenal.

He has died, and just recently from cancer. The story that Diane Sawyer did was remarkable, about him, his life, his wife and children. The things he did for his children as he knew he was dying.

I have been back and forth in my head about the reasons I need to be home, or maybe I should keep interpreting, for the money and so on ...

I have my answer, loud and clear tonight ... there is nothing more important than being with my children and my husband. Being home is the greatest blessing, loving and raising my children and leading them in the way that God wants ... this is what I will do everyday, and I am so thankful.

It is so weird sitting here and weeping for a man that I have never met. I wonder if he knew Jesus?

Goodness, what a story.

Randy said that you are either a Tigger or an Eeyore (did I spell that right?) I am a Tigger, for sure and I am just so thrilled that I will be with my baby girl, home when Matthew gets off the bus, bouncing and ready to play.

God, please bless the family of Randy Pausch, his wife and children as they now move on in this life without him. I pray for his soul, not knowing if he did indeed know You or not. Thank you for my husband's new job, for the amazing benefits that will enable me to be home with Matthew and Grace. Thank you for every moment, every laugh and every tear. I live to serve You, that my children will know You and love You, just as I do. Amen.

P.S. I did find Big Sticks at Safeway ... although they are called Astro Pops, they are still super yummy and fabulous!

I've heard about this story, but don't know much about it...now I'm curious!!

I was just talking with Eric this morning about staying home with the kids and how important it is. There's a book called "The Mission of Motherhood"...I've gotten about half way through it, but need to start over and read it completely. It's about this very thing and it's wonderful. It's by Sally Clarkson...you should read it!

Hi Jess,

Randy Pausch wrote his Last Lecture first....then he wrote the book. I've seen both. It is a pretty amazing story. If you watched the whole lecture - which is over an hour long (and available on YouTube or at his website) then you really don't need to read the book - they are so similar.

That's funny. I did see this and also was so impacted. I keep meaning to ask if you saw it. I downloaded the book on itunes, a guy said that there are some extra things in the book that were not included in the lecture, that's why I chose that. I know you're surprised I didn't buy the book! But this way I can hear it in the same format as the lecture. I am looking forward to listening. I cried and cried but was so sad when he talked about how Christian his dad was and then when they asked him about his religion and he refused to talk about it, that is was private. And I just wept. I mean, if he knew Jesus, would he have "kept it private"?? Knowing Jesus the way I do and knowing how I wouldn't be able to keep him out of a lecture, made me just weep for him, after I was done weeping for his wife and children. I think his concepts are phenomenal. Inspiring. We'll have to talk more in depth about this. love ya.
